Mr Chow + Mr Chow Face = Mr Chowing !
Allow me to Introduce Mr Chow: A darling, happy, forever smiling, fun Vietnamese local who was the guide and translator for 7 days on my journey through his country. Mr Chow had a smile that could light up the entire of Vietnam, perhaps even the world !
A couple of years ago I travelled through Vietnam on the back of a Vespa with 5 friends (not all on the same bike – although I am sure it would have been ok if we had chosen to !)
We are a cheeky bunch, and without sounding like I think we are the most awesome people on the planet – are a lot of fun, especially en masse. We think we are very funny, laugh a lot and do lots of silly things !
Mr Chows task on the trip was to give us some local knowledge, an interesting fact or some form of history lesson. Mr Chow had a little habit of “chatting on” a bit, bless his darling heart, and not being the most attentive or patient bunch, there were many times we were left trying to edge away to carry on our exploration without seeming rude.
Over that next week, the “Mr Chow talks” turned into a little bit of a joke. There was generally one of us that would catch another’s eye and give a little giggle, a look, a nudge, or better – stand in the background taking photos of us all trying to pay attention. {The Mr Chow talks photo series}
And this is where the Mr Chow face was born.
For months afterwards, once back in Australia we would pose for photos with our best Mr Chow faces. Photos of us with our friends would travel via MMS through the mobile networks showcasing our best and funniest Mr Chow faces.
And so began the Mr Chow Face movement. I even introduced its own term – “Mr Chowing” !
What is a Mr Chow Face I hear you ask ?
Squeeze your eyes tightly closed and pull the biggest possible grin you can muster. Give it a try ! If anything it will end in fits of giggles and a spread of joy !
Mr Chow was such a wonderful part of our time in Vietnam. He was hilarious, happy, he smiled, he laughed, he was adventurous, smart, informative, fearless, he looked after us, immersed us in his countries wonderful culture, he cared and he was fun !
Love Mr Chow – when I think of the word “smile“, I think of Mr Chow and our time in Vietnam.
Happy Mr Chowing !
